Altar in St. Michael the Archangel church in Daleszyce

COMPLETION DATE: 2017
LOCATION: POLAND

In 2010 as well as between 2013 and 2014 we carried out numerous renovation and construction works of the St. Michael the Archangel parish church in Daleszyce – the information concerning these works can be found here >>.

The Altar of the church in Daleszyce was created in one of the local workshops in Świętokrzyskie region, at the end of the 19th century. The three-story, wooden, polychrome, gilded and silvered. In the central part of the altar, there is an image of Our Lady of the Scapular of the sixteenth century in a silver dress with crowns and scepter. On 5 July 1782, it was recognized as miraculous. On the bolt of this picture, the image of St. Michael the Archangel, the patron of the church, is presented.

Before the renovation of the object, the surface of the paint layers was heavily soiled, and the protective varnish matted and darkened. The altar requires carrying out an immediate technical and aesthetic maintenance in order to protect the object from destruction.

In order to restore the original appearance of the object: we have reinforced the structural wood structure; reconstructed the woodwork as well recreated the gilding; replaced darkened schlagmetal, used for gildings, with gold leaves. We have carried out the technical and aesthetic maintenance of the paintings and sculptures; moreover, we have filled in the missing parts of wood, mortar and paint layers.

For cleaning the altar, we have used a modern laser, which is not only extremely precise, but minimally invasive as well. The surface obtained in this way was not only perfectly clean, but also ready for further conservation works, which would be impossible to achieve using conventional cleaning techniques.

All of the above-mentioned works are performed under a strict supervision of the monument conservator.

We put our heart in stone.
