Side altars in St. Michael the Archangel parish church in Daleszyce

COMPLETION DATE: 2018
LOCATION: POLAND

The side altar is located in St. Michael the Archangel parish church in Daleszyce, built in the 20th century. More information concerning the works we carried out in this object can be found here >>.

The side altar of St. Francis is located in the southern side nave. It dates back to 1920, however, the traces of manual processing seem to suggest that it could have been made before the last reconstruction of the temple. It is a single axis altar, consisting of two levels. In the lower level, there is an oil painting on the canvas, depicting St. Francis, while in the niche there is a wooden figure of the saint.

Scope of works included: layered and degraded gilding required to be removed – we have cleaned it using the LASERBLAST 2000 laser. We have recreated the original colors along with gold leaves’ gilding. Part of the details was transported to the workshop for reconstruction, after their dismantling; moreover, we placed the paintings on new frames and at the same time we repaired missing parts and abrasions.

The side altar with the statue of Jesus dates back to 1920 and was made in Neo-Baroque style. The object was in poor technical and visual condition, therefore first of all we have cleaned and removed unnecessary layers of paint and gilding with the use of LASERBLAST 2000 laser, thanks to which the whole has been performed in a minimally invasive way. As in the case of the altar with the image of St. Francis, some of the elements had to be dismantled and transported to the studio for reconstruction. Both the design and some details required filling in missing parts; we have also recreated the colors of the whole. During the works we selected appropriate conservation methods based on the existing condition and the appearance of the object after removing further damaged layers. We have also renewed the painting with the figures of angels, located in the lower part of the altar.

The side altar of st. Joseph, just like the other two side altars, was in very bad shape. Scope of works included the removal and cleaning of the degraded layers of gilding. We have dismantled and transported parts of details to the workshop for reconstruction. We also recreated the original coloring and the painting.

We put our heart in stone.
